Ten, like Brax, annoys Sophie. The difference being that he's annoyed her from the outset. In any case, this means that she enjoys being around him because Sophie is weird like that :D
Sophie sees him as being incredibly intelligent, if rather odd and possibly missing a few marbles. Or simply pretending to be missing a few marbles, which seems the more likely case. She is fascinated by the things he knows and the life he leads, but he also makes her feel foolish and primitive, which is a sure way to upset her.
Sophie also thinks he's quite impossible, whatwith his impromptu racing and scanning her. He doesn't listen, and he shows off, and she would love to one-up him one day. At times, he reminds her of how dull she's afraid she is. Other times, he helps her to forget her worries, and she does enjoy how much he loves life. She wants to feel free to just, do things, again. She enjoyed that a lot as an old woman, but she feels more trapped in this unfamiliar town. Ten helps her to come out of her shell at times, and she trusts him more and is a lot closer to him than many of the other residents.
